This feature was tryed but it caused the main page to slow way down cause the more graphics you load the longer the load time and most inages will not display properly as a thumbnail unless you increace the image uploads to also include thumbnail upload and increasing server hard drive space, so I will never include this cause of the troubles it will cause and the slowing load time

I added this to Shane's auction script. I set it up thinking about the load time. Plus removed the page break that only works on the second click main page only. I need to fix that.

Plus changed the logo and banner layout

Nice, *except* (hehe) that it is actually loading the large picture just looks small. So, yes, takes a long time,. Hmmm, wish I knew how to have perl reduce the image size/resolution so that each picture would be more like 1kb or something real small. Is that possible with perl?

Their is a script out there that rewrites the pics to a smaller size. I need to fine it and add it to the auction script.

For now arrow pack needs to set his spot light pics to 6 displayed for now, 12 is to much.

When a auction ends a new spot light pic will take its place. When a visitor views the main page once the pic will load quick after that because the pics are stored on the visitor computer.

I like the idea of some pics display on the main page. I am going to fix this to load quick.

When you do please let me know how :) I was thinking how I wanted the image to be to the right of the featured item description, if there is a pic available, if not then it just won't have a pic. I am thinking of reducing the leftmost table size since the categories don't take up much room and the featured items sometimes wrap to the next line which doesn't look too pretty. (which would also give more room to the pictures) but I am unsure yet as to how it will affect the rest of the site. I guess I can always back up the files and fool around.

ps. If I find the program that youare looking for to reduce the image sizes (I've seen it before too on an "adult" site) then you'll have to hook me up with the rest.

I think it would be a major improvement to the auction script. There is a script "imagemagick" GPL which generate thumbnails. I am no programmer and don't know how to include it in the auction script.

There is one auction script that uses "imagemagicK" to generate thumbnails (openscript http://openscripts.net/cgi-bin/openauction3/cgi-bin/openauction3.cgi).

I understand about server time and spacer. But I think a page would load much faster if the larger image was link instead of being loaded It would solve some of the loading and server problems. Most thumbnails are one-tenth the size of the larger image and load in about one-third the time (estimation).

I have search the web and almost all programs try to squeeze a large image into a small frame.

I service a rural area and any connection speed over 26K is wonderful. Any large image is a major problem, especially if there a several on a page.

I think Richard is doing great job and the script is a baragin!!!

Thanks Again!

Your right CM, to use imagemagick or other cgi to resize the image you have to add image modules to the server and most admin will not do this.

So I was thinking instead of uploading 4 pics with Richards deluxe version is to upload:

1. upload one normal pic
2. upload one voice file --- so the user can leave a voice description of item (mp3 wma )
3. upload one thumbnail --- for the front page rotation of blocks of 3pics across and 3 pics down and each block will rotation a different pic. Plus the gallery

Let the user make their own thumbnails and upload it. Thumbnails size can be set by you.
The thumbnails can be used for the front page and gallery and charge a premium for the services.

Normal pic $1.00
Thumbnails in gallery $2.00 or what ever ( This way the gallery will load faster )
Thumbnails on front page $5.00 or what ever
Voice file $2.00 or what ever

You can see a voice file at my site but have not added the thumbnail stuff let.
